Common Ground:
White Allyship In the Outdoors

6 sessions
September and October 2026
Online

Over six sessions, this introductory course invites us to examine our relationships with ourselves, race, and land. We'll explore the racialized history of land in America, and its impact on our mindsets and behavior.

Our experience of race and racism lives in our bodies.  We will learn practices for centering ourselves under pressure, for understanding the stories that shaped us, and for deepening our ability to take skillful action.

We won't do any of this alone! Together we'll build skills for partnering with and leading communities in outdoor spaces — skills rooted in presence, accountability, and care. We'll leave with a stronger sense of who we are, where we come from, and what we're here to do.

This course is for white people on their allyship journey, both early on as well as a few steps down the road.  You will join colleagues from environmental organizations, government agencies, foundations and communities who share a commitment for all peoples to have access and connection with the outdoors.

Our Team

Cari Caldwell

For over 20 years, Cari has guided organizations and individuals through the real work of racial justice — disrupting the structures in our bodies and institutions that keep inequity in place. Across sectors and countries, she creates the conditions for the kind of honest, uncomfortable, and ultimately liberatory transformation that actually sticks.  Cari grew up on the Great Lakes and currently lives at the foot of the Rocky Mountains in the shade of a very wise grandmother crab apple tree who she consults regularly.
